Second Verse, Same As the First
Many Canadians look upon their counterparts to the South as credulous dupes willing to swallow any sort of tripe as long as it's wrapped in the red, white, and blue. True enough...but what happens if that same tripe is repackaged in a maple leaf?
When I read this forwarded email, I thought it sounded familiar...
A MILITARY DAUGHTER - A BEAUTIFUL STORY
Proud to be a Soldier !!! From the daughter of a
Soldier..Last week I was in Trenton, Ontario. attending a
conference. While I was
in the airport, returning home, I heard several people
behind me beginning to clap and cheer. I immediately turned
around and witnessed one of the greatest acts of patriotism
I have ever seen. Moving thru the terminal was a group of soldiers in their
camos, as they began heading to their gate everyone (well almost everyone)
was abruptly to their feet with their hands waving and cheering. When I
saw the soldiers, probably 30-40 of them, being applauded
and cheered for it hit me. I'm not alone. I'm not the only red blooded Canadian
who still loves this country and supports our troops and
their families...
What a touching story! I think I'll go and enlist today due to the holy flame of patriotism enkindled in my breast...But wait...I once heard a venerable old man claim that forwarded emails sometimes contain unreliable and unverifiable information...
Read It.
If Canadians believe that having their troops in Afghanistan is making them safer from terrorism, they're mistaken. In fact, the opposite is true.
Read It.
"Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger."
